Rank is players over the last seven days. A big server showing offline while the rest are up is that server restarting or wiping, not Rust being down.
The verdict, read off the board
Every five minutes we pull the full public server list and count it. Then we compare that count with what the same hour looked like over the past two days and the past 2026. If today sits near the norm, the servers are up. If it falls well under, something is wrong on the network side.
A regional dip looks different from a full outage. Europe at breakfast is quiet by design. The whole board sagging at once is not.
The numbers behind the call
Three figures decide it:
- Servers answering. 11,820 at the last read. Compare that with the line for this hour on the 48-hour chart.
- Players in game. 91,081 right now. A drop in players with no drop in servers is a quiet hour, not an outage.
- The big ones. Watch the largest servers by population. When the top of the list holds its usual count, the hardware is fine and the silence is local.
You can see the same figures unrolled over time on the live player count page.
When the board says up but your browser says nothing
That gap is usually Steam, not Rust.
- Restart Steam, then the game. The browser reads the list through Steam, and a stale login returns an empty screen.
- Clear your server browser filters. A region or tag set weeks ago can hide every server.
- Check Steam's own status. When Steam's list service drops, every game's browser empties.
- On a force wipe day, update Rust first; servers restart one by one and yours must be on the new build. The force wipe countdown tells you how close the next one is.
- Turn off any VPN and try again. Loose firewalls and office networks block the traffic the browser relies on.
One server missing, not all of them
If a single server has gone, it is that server wiping, restarting or down. Its own page shows when it was last seen, and the full server list lets you check whether its neighbours are still pulling a crowd. Servers that have just come back are on the just wiped board.
Questions
01Are Rust servers down right now?
Check the verdict at the top of this page. It is calculated from our latest read of the full public server list, compared with the usual count for this hour. Near the norm means servers are up; a sharp fall means an outage on the network side.
02Why is the page down verdict different when my game works fine?
The verdict covers the public server list as a whole, not your single connection. A regional dip or a Steam drop can leave your server reachable while the wider list looks thin. The numbers and the 48-hour charts show which of the two you are looking at.
03How often is the status checked?
Every five minutes, across every public Rust server we can see. Each read is stamped with the time it was taken, so you can tell how current the verdict is. If a read is late, the page says so instead of guessing.
