What is the Rust tutorial?

It is Facepunch's new-player tutorial. You spawn on a separate island and learn the basics — gathering, crafting, building and cooking. When you finish, you move to the main map with everyone else. The server keeps its usual rates and rules.

Are tutorial servers suitable for new players?

For the first hour they are ideal: you learn the controls without another player killing you. After that you are on the main map, so check the Group and Tags columns for gather rates if you want a gentler start. Many large official servers keep the tutorial on, giving you a taste of normal play early.

Do tutorial servers wipe?

Yes, they follow the same wipe schedule as any Rust server. Most wipe monthly, some weekly or biweekly. A wipe resets the map but only resets blueprints if the server chooses to. Check a server's page for its next wipe estimate.

Can I play with friends on a tutorial server?

Yes. The tutorial itself is solo, but once you finish you join the normal map and can team up. Check the Group column first; some servers set a low team limit, so pick one that fits your group size.
